Tumbling Shoals Farm

Tumbling Shoals Farm Stand
  • Tumbling Shoals Farm is a diverse Certified Organic vegetable/small fruit operation in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. We have dabbled in livestock but are not currently raising any. The entire farm is only 15 acres, including our house and the employee village, and we grow some 50 different things on just shy of 3 acres of tilled ground. We began production on this land in 2008 with just an acre in production and 1 full time person. Now we employ 7 full time seasonal people including ourselves, most of whom live on the farm and eat their fill of farm produce. Our employees are paid an hourly wage, which is our strongest “soap box” value. We believe that we cannot call our farm sustainable if it relies on the backs of free labor. We value sustainability in all things, including the happiness of us and our employees, so while we must work as efficiently as possible (financial sustainability), we try to have a good time with the work. After all, we make our entire living on this farm, so we had better enjoy what we do!

We have been CSA members with Tumbling Shoals Farm for 6 years and love their vegetables. We love Jason and Shiloh. They are very gifted farmers. They are great teachers, great listeners and deeply care about what they do. The strawberry jam I make with their organic strawberries is excellent. They even had some hard-to-find espelette peppers with which I made pepper jelly. You can’t go wrong with seeking out their vegetables at the market.
