Zo Mpofu

Ex Officio Board Member

Zo is the public health program consultant for Buncombe County Health & Human Services, where she leads community health assessment and improvement. Zo began her career in the office of U. S. Senator John Edwards (D-NC). She later served as district liaison for United States Congressman Major R. Owens (D-NY), leading efforts in affordable housing preservation, youth development, and the implementation of Medicare Part-D for Central Brooklyn. During the Michael Bloomberg administration, Zo was instrumental in the New State Senate’s renewal of mayoral control for New York City’s Public schools. Zo holds a Bachelor of Arts in international affairs from Kalamazoo College (MI) and has studied at La Sorbonne, as well as Institut Catholique de Paris. She is a 2017 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Project Connect alum and serves as an advocacy officer for the NC Public Health Association. Reared in Asheville, NC, Zo is an art history enthusiast and advocate for the conservation of small family-owned farms. She joined the board in December 2018.
